Traillog Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-07-14
Traillog is a location timeline app published by Weganar Consulting LLC. This policy explains what the app processes, where information is stored, and the controls available to you.
Data We Process
Depending on the features you enable and the permissions you grant, Traillog may process:
- Precise or approximate location, timestamps, routes, and learned places used to build your timeline.
- Motion and fitness information such as steps, movement type, cadence, and floors.
- Health information you authorize, including workouts, heart rate, heart-rate variability, calories, sleep, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, wrist temperature, mobility, training load, and effort scores.
- Photo metadata and photos used to match images with timeline entries. Access occurs only after you grant permission.
- Notes, tags, titles, saved places, activity goals, and other information you choose to enter.
- Sharing identity and participant information used by optional timeline-sharing features.
- App settings, sync state, and diagnostic logs needed to operate, recover, and troubleshoot the app.
Where Data Is Stored
- Timeline information is stored locally on your device. Limited summaries may also be stored in an App Group container for Traillog widgets, complications, and Live Activities.
- When iCloud is available, eligible timeline information may sync through Apple CloudKit tied to your Apple Account for backup, cross-device use, and sharing.
- HealthKit information, HealthKit-derived details, and direct Motion & Fitness measurements such as steps, floors, cadence, and raw accelerometer samples stay on device. Traillog does not upload them to CloudKit or include them in iCloud shares.
- Information you explicitly share is stored in CloudKit shared databases and becomes available to the people included in that share.
- Exports are saved to a location you choose or temporarily prepared for the iOS share sheet. You control copies sent to other apps, people, or storage providers.
- Diagnostic logs stay on device unless you deliberately export or send them for support.
Traillog does not operate its own backend for your core timeline or location history.
How Data Is Used
- Build and display stays, trips, activities, and lifestyle sessions.
- Provide statistics, summaries, maps, fitness insights, and recovery information.
- Enrich timeline entries with authorized health, motion, weather, and photo context.
- Provide optional sharing, export, widgets, Apple Watch, Live Activities, and notifications.
- Maintain sync reliability and help you diagnose problems.
Background Location
If you choose Always Allow, Traillog can record location while the app is not visible so it can build a continuous timeline of stays and trips. You can use While Using or deny location access, but automatic background timeline coverage will be limited. You can stop tracking in Traillog and change location permission at any time in iOS Settings.
On-Device Intelligence
On supported devices, Apple Foundation Models may classify content, explain segments, create captions, offer coaching text, or interpret a timeline question. These features are designed to run on device. Traillog does not send your raw timeline to a developer-operated AI server.
Sharing
- Sharing is optional and begins only after an action from you.
- Timeline shares include segment type, activity type when applicable, start and end time, start and end coordinates used for map pins, an address or place label, selected photos, and an automatically generated simplified version of the travel path shown on the owner's map within the scope you choose.
- A shared travel path contains ordered latitude and longitude coordinates only. It follows the same path shown on the owner's map; for driving segments, this is the road-aligned path when one is available.
- A shared travel path does not include timestamps, speed, altitude, accuracy, heading, raw location samples, or HealthKit workout-route samples.
- Timeline shares do not include HealthKit or Motion & Fitness measurements, weather, performance metrics, owner notes, owner tags, comments, or reactions.
- New Stats-only shares cannot be created. Previously accepted Stats-only links remain available as frozen, read-only compatibility views.
- HealthKit information, HealthKit-derived details, and direct Motion & Fitness measurements are never included in CloudKit shares.
- You choose the people and timeline scope. The simplified travel path is included automatically in every Timeline share; there is no separate route toggle. As the owner, you can remove a participant or delete the share to revoke that person's future access.
- Copies a recipient previously exported or captured cannot be recalled by Traillog.
Permissions
Traillog requests permissions only when needed for a feature, including Location, Motion & Fitness, Health, Photos, Bluetooth for supported heart-rate monitors, and Notifications. You can revoke permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
Retention, Deletion, and Your Choices
You can stop tracking, change local location-retention settings, export available data, remove sharing participants, delete shares, or delete local data, iCloud data, or both from Data & Sync settings. If an iCloud deletion fails, Traillog reports it and may retry automatically. You can withdraw permission through iOS Settings.
Apple services and device backups may retain information for a limited period under Apple's own retention and recovery practices. Files you export or share outside Traillog must be deleted separately at their destination.
Apple Services
Traillog uses Apple frameworks and services including CloudKit, MapKit, WeatherKit, HealthKit, Photos, StoreKit, Foundation Models, and notification services. Their processing is governed by Apple's terms and privacy practices. Traillog contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDK.
Children's Privacy
Traillog is not intended for children under 13.
